Your Shadow

All of my days have your shadow cast over them. Like those clouds that make you think it’s about to rain but the rain never actually comes. Your shadow is ever lurking like a ghost. Like that feeling that someone is there, yet I don’t see you. Your shadow hangs over every conversation. Like an awkward silence, not knowing if I should utter your name. Your shadow softly whispers to me. Like a distant memory of words spoken that I desperately want to remember but I can’t hear you. Your shadow carries your smell. Like the smell of honeysuckle floating by but only for an instant then it’s gone. Your shadow taunts me from your doorway. Like a vivid dream that seems so real yet I can’t touch you. Yes, your shadow is cast over all of my days ever since the sun set for you. Love, Mom
